What is therapy

Have you ever wondered exactly what therapy is? There is such a broad range of talking therapies and variations of therapists which can make it tricky to understand what mental health services are being offered and which one might suit your needs.

Here at WeBloom, we offer Psychotherapy with experienced Chartered Psychologists. Therapy is a journey that helps you to grow in your self-awareness of what's going on in your present through a developmental lense of your experiences and relationships throughout your life. This in turn helps us to recognise patterns of painful and unmet connection needs, particularly in your younger years and key relationships, and the consequential brain, mind and body responses that often play out as a result. With time you can begin to see how these experiences have impacted your inner voice, identity and beliefs about self, others and the world around you. This helps to tolerate and accept difficult patterns in the here and now, which are often false refuges for coping, and respond rather with compassion, kindness and acceptance to your unmet needs or places of pain. From acceptance you can begin to learn new ways of responding to the real needs beneath. So begins the process of shifting the impact of the past and rewiring more healthy responses in the present.


Starting Therapy

Therapy is both a safe space and significant step on the journey to becoming more whole in how you see yourself, the world around you and how you relate with it.

It usually involves anywhere between 6-12 weekly 50 minute sessions, with a common duration of about 6 months. This will be discussed and decided upon together at the first session. The initial meeting is an 80 minute session as it usually takes a little more time in the first session to get a sense of some of the current struggles and background information in order to identify together focus for change in subsequent sessions. Duration and frequency of meetings will depend on your needs, wishes and progress.  Longer term treatment is also available.  

Therapy rooms

Our therapy rooms are warm and welcoming and feel much like a home environment. They provide a comfortable and confidential atmosphere at both London Bridge and Sevenoaks sites.
